The story
Champagne AOC Cuvée Dom Pérignon Vintage 1964. A historic blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sourced from the region’s finest Grand Cru villages and the historic Premier Cru of Hautvillers. The 1964 vintage is unanimously regarded as one of the defining Champagne years of the twentieth century: a warm, consistent summer allowed the grapes to reach perfect ripeness while preserving the pronounced acidity that enabled this vintage to evolve so magnificently, remaining intact and expressive after more than six decades.
The producer
Moët & Chandon, founded in Épernay in 1743 by Claude Moët, is one of the houses that shaped the history of Champagne throughout the world. The Dom Pérignon cuvée, created as a tribute to the celebrated Benedictine monk of Hautvillers Abbey, was conceived from the beginning as a vintage-only wine, produced exclusively in exceptional harvests. It remains an absolute benchmark for technical precision, meticulous grape selection and the extraordinary management of very long ageing on the lees.
The moment
A monumental bottle opened and shared with Luca Martini, Best Sommelier in the World 2014, at the headquarters of Etica Distribuzione in the province of Varese. Tasting a 1964 Dom Pérignon with a colleague and friend of this calibre transforms the experience into one of pure emotion and profound technical exchange. The wine stands as living testimony to Champagne’s ability to transcend time.
